Bungalow Plans contains house plans that may be modest in size by today’s standards, but integrate the style and timeless charm of the past with a modern point of view. |

The New Bungalow $3.94 The Arts & Crafts bungalow has been reborn, in as rich and full an array of iterations as it was in its heyday – from tight clusters of similar inexpensive housing opportunities to the grand, and arguably borderline, bungalow scale of the "ultimate bungalows" of the 1910s. The New Bungalow is a celebration of contemporary interpretations of this classic house style – an art form that symbolizes the best of the good life. It offers an alternative solution to the tract development filled with homes appliqued with various random trim details and contrived architectural components. It is a guide to creating a home that has a true, honest expression of style. Given their simple lines, spacious and open floor plans, natural tones, and colors, it is no mystery why new bungalow developments are gaining popularity. Bungalow Details Exterior $36.51 In their latest book, bungalow experts Jane Powell and Linda Svendsen identify the finer points and visual characteristics that make a bungalow a true bungalow, and show how to incorporate these important details into a small home. The authors skillfully explain how to identify details and blend them together, and offer insight into the Arts and Crafts philosophy behind a bungalow’s uses. A sleeping porch, a pergola, an exposed rafter tail, an extensive use of wood, stone, and brick: none of these features alone characterize a bungalow. However, with Bungalow Details: Exterior, anyone can become a bungalow expert, and be able to confidently spot a true bungalow when they see one. Jane Powell is the proprietor of House Dressing, a business dedicated to renovating and preserving old homes. She is a frequent lecturer and consultant, and is the author of Bungalow Kitchens and Bungalow Bathrooms. Linda Svendsen, a graduate of Music and Art High School and Parsons School of Design in New York, has been a renowned photographer for more than thirty years. Her work is showcased in numerous magazines and books; she is the author of Bicycle: Around the World. |

Beyond the Bungalow: Grand Homes in the Arts & Crafts Tradition $14.46 Beyond the Bungalow, the newest book from renowned designer and Arts & Crafts expert Paul Duchscherer, celebrates the larger members of the Arts & Crafts family, and pays tribute to their remarkable artistic beauty, craftsmanship, and diversity of style. Widely acclaimed as America’s favorite "Arts & Crafts Home," the term bungalow may bring a specific image to mind, but it really is one part of a much larger family. This extended family also includes an entire genre of larger-scale Craftsman-period homes, much like those created by architect brothers Charles and Henry Greene. Beyond the Bungalow includes popular architectural styles like Swiss Chalet, Mission, Spanish Colonial Revival, Tudor, and more. These homes comprise a range of style infusions and crossover influences; the sheer scope in variety of shapes and sizes represented among these larger homes entirely surpasses the widest range of the bungalow. Beyond the Bungalow also features a list of must-see museums and homes, and a list of current related periodicals for further study. With beautiful period interior photography, Duchsherer’s newest book is not just an excellent resource, but is an endless inspiration for Arts & Crafts enthusiasts. Paul Duchscherer is a design historian and interior designer specializing in historic preservation work. Also a prominent lecturer in the Arts & Crafts field, his designs have been featured on This Old House, Curb Appeal, and many other programs, as well as in dozens of magazines and newspapers. His previous books include Inside the Bungalow and Outside the Bungalow. He lives in San Francisco, California. Linda Svendsen, a graduate of Music & Art High School and Parsons School of Design in New York, has been a renowned photographer for more than thirty years. She has traveled to all seven continents, bringing back this planet’s most captivating images of peoples, lands, and wildlife. Her work has been published in the form of calendars, posters, jigsaw puzzles, note cards, and most recently, books that showcase her architectural photography and are sold worldwide.
