Yeovil $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yeovil (pronounced / jo v l/ YOHvil) is a town and civil parish in south Somerset, England. The parish had a population of 27,949 at the 2001 census, although the wider urban area had a population of 42,140. The town lies within the local district of South Somerset and the Yeovil parliamentary constituency. It has palaeolithic remains, was on an old Roman road and was recorded in the Domesday Book as the town of Givle, and later became a centre for the glove making industry. During the Middle Ages the population of the town suffered from the Black Death and several serious fires. In the 20th century it developed into a centre of the aircraft and defence industries, which made it a target for bombing in World War II, with one of the largest employers being AgustaWestland who manufacture helicopters. Several other manufacturing and retail companies also have bases in the town. In the 21st century Yeovil became the first town in Britain to institute a system of biometric fingerprint scanning in nightclubs and the first English council to ban the childrens craze Heelys. Yeovil College $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yeovil College is a tertiary institution and further education college based in Yeovil, Somerset, England. It also operates Yeovil College Training at Ilminster, North Dorset Skills Centre in Shaftesbury, Yeovil College Construction Skills Centre and the University Centre Yeovil. The College was founded as an experiment in 1974 following the abandonment of Grammar School education in the Yeovil area, being only the third officially designated Tertiary College in the country. It was an attempt to see if it was possible to bring all vocational and nonvocational post CSE/Olevel nondegree education under one roof. It was constituted from the existing Yeovil Technical College, and the sixth forms of Yeovil School (boys) and Yeovil High School (girls). Two existing sites were used: the old Tech College site (between Ilchester and Mudford Roads) became the main facility, while the nearby Yeovil School site (on Mudford Rd/Goldcroft) became an annexe containing the Science Department, and Business and Secretarial Schools.
